The Advice That Continue To Shape My Life

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Life is full of lessons, and along the way, I have been blessed to hear many pieces of advice from people I know and even from strangers. Each word of encouragement or guidance has had its own impact, shaping parts of my journey. Yet among all the wisdom I have gathered, the advice that has remained with me the most came from my mother. She repeatedly reminded me of two essential values: to acquire knowledge and to practice patience. Together, these two pieces of advice have become the foundation of who I am today.

My mother’s words about acquiring knowledge were not limited to formal education or the pursuit of certificates. She emphasized knowledge as a way of life, a continuous journey that never ends. It meant seeking truth, understanding, and clarity in matters of faith, personal growth, and human interaction. She taught me that knowledge enlightens the mind, strengthens the heart, and provides guidance for making the right decisions.

Equally important was her call for patience. In a world where we often desire quick results and immediate success, patience teaches us endurance and calm. It is patience that allows knowledge to take root, because true understanding is not instant. It grows with time, reflection, and experience. My mother showed me that patience is not weakness, but strength, because it gives us the ability to remain steady even in moments of difficulty.

Through seeking knowledge, I encountered transcendent wisdom from God, delivered through His Prophets to their Companions who transmitted it to the followers of the Prophets. All of whom have embodied both knowledge and patience in their lives, showing how the two walk hand in hand. Knowledge without patience becomes arrogance, and patience without knowledge becomes blindness. Together, they lead to a balanced life grounded in faith and purpose.

I also learned from Scholars and Teachers who dedicated their lives to spreading wisdom. They displayed not only deep understanding but also remarkable patience in teaching and guiding others. Their example reminded me that real growth comes when we combine the pursuit of knowledge with the discipline of patience, for only then can lessons truly shape our character and intellect.

Even strangers and acquaintances contributed to my journey in unexpected ways. A kind word, a thoughtful story, or an observed act of endurance often carried hidden lessons. These encounters reminded me that life itself is a classroom, and every experience whether joyful or painful offers knowledge if met with patience. It is through this lens that I began to see my mother’s advice unfold in daily living.

Looking back, I realize that knowledge and patience are like two wings of the same bird. With knowledge, we rise in understanding, and with patience, we remain steady in flight. My mother’s repeated words instilled in me a balance that has shaped my intellect, nurtured my faith, and molded my resilience in facing life’s challenges.

In conclusion, I am deeply grateful for all the guidance I have received from family, friends, teachers, and strangers. But above all, I cherish the advice from my mother: to acquire knowledge and to practice patience. It is this combination that has made me who I am and continues to guide me toward who I strive to become.

Thank you for reading this reflection and for allowing me to share the wisdom that has been my greatest gift.
