Exploring How Every Subject Connects to the Universal Purpose of Knowledge

What was your favorite subject in school?

Looking back through my studying journey, my favorite subjects evolved with each stage of learning, each reflecting a deepening sense of curiosity, awareness, and purpose.

At the basic level, I was most drawn to Religious and Moral Education (RME). The nature of God has always been a subject that excites my mind and stirs my soul. I was fascinated by how different religions perceive the Divine, and how morality forms the foundation of a meaningful life. For me, RME was not merely an academic subject; it was an exploration of human purpose and divine order. It awakened in me a lifelong interest in understanding why we believe, how we worship, and what moral values sustain the essence of humanity. Morality, as I came to understand, is not just a social construct but a divine command that shapes the character of mankind. It teaches empathy, discipline, and the consciousness of accountability before God and society.

At the junior level, Social Studies became my center of joy. I found excitement in studying human interactions, cultures, and the dynamics that hold societies together. Growing up in a community that values collective responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect, I naturally developed an affinity for learning about social relations and civic engagement. Social Studies gave me the vocabulary to describe the realities I was already living; it explained why communities thrive through unity and why individuals must coexist harmoniously for social balance. It made me more open minded and aware of how every action, no matter how small, influences the wellbeing of the collective.

When I reached the senior level, my intellectual curiosity gravitated toward History. The study of past events became more than just memorizing dates and battles; it became a window into the human condition. I was captivated by the resilience, vision, and legacy of historical figures, people who dared to dream, to fight, and to shape civilization. Their lives became lessons on courage, governance, justice, and transformation. History taught me that time is a great teacher and that the past always leaves behind wisdom for those who seek it. Through history, I learned that humanity’s greatest progress often emerges from its greatest trials.

By the time I reached the tertiary level and beyond, I gradually stopped identifying one subject as my favorite. I came to realize that knowledge itself is interwoven. Every discipline, whether scientific, artistic, philosophical, or technical, holds a piece of the puzzle of existence. Each subject, in its own way, contributes to the greater understanding of life and purpose. This broadened perspective transformed how I engaged with learning. Rather than ranking subjects, I began to see them as interconnected paths leading toward universal truth. The sciences revealed the laws of creation, the humanities explored the depths of human experience, and philosophy questioned the boundaries of knowledge itself.

In essence, my journey through education has been one of evolving curiosity; from understanding God and morality, to appreciating human society, to learning from history’s lessons, and finally embracing the unity of all knowledge. Education, I have learned, is not just about acquiring facts; it is about discovering meaning, expanding awareness, and aligning knowledge with purpose. Every stage of learning adds a unique chapter to one’s intellectual and spiritual growth.

In reflection, I am deeply grateful for every teacher, classmate, and experience that shaped my path of learning. Each subject has been a doorway to self discovery and enlightenment. To all educators and learners who continue to inspire curiosity and nurture understanding, I say thank you. Knowledge is indeed a gift, and learning remains one of the noblest pursuits of the human soul.
